Year-Round Programs

Dynamic & Fluid Learning Groups

Naʻau's learning options are taught in small groups and facilitated by Lois-Ann Yamanaka and/or Melvin E. Spencer III. We sometimes have teaching assistants, skilled in the Naʻau approach to learning. Although we do our best to make each K-12 learning group age appropriate, at times, we have a mixture of ages. Since the size of our groups is small, each learner is really afforded a lot of individualized attention--this promotes good learning. Therefore, the transition from one group to another when necessary is really seamless because of our attention to each learner's specific needs.

`Ōlelo

Naʻau offers students language instruction in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi in beginning conversational phrases like “How are you?” or “What is the weather like?” Keiki also learn vocabulary and draw detailed pictures to improve retention with beginner sentence structures like “This is a dog” or “That is a pencil.” Keiki are also encouraged to read Hawaiian. Our kumu instructs much of what is taught using his Naʻau to determine if your keiki is ready or has emerging skills to learn our material. Level-proficiency lessons are prepared for students from immersion schools delivered by our caring and knowledgeable Naʻau staff.
